Requirements

The main focus of the Neighborhood-Kids website is to present a comprehensive list of activities in Bellingham and Whatcom County. Activities had to be organized by date and category so users could find them in multiple ways. In addition to displaying activities, users needed to see that they could submit activities and advertise on the site.

Solutions

The first impression users should get from the site is that it is kid-centered and friendly. The design is light and colorful and full of fun fonts and textures.

Mindfly provided a system that allowed activites of all types to be added to the site. Each activity sponsor had a 'place page' (like the Bellingham Library) and all activities including multi-day and recurring activities were posted there. Activities each had a thumbnail image, title and short description that showed when the user hovered over the activity, allowing them enough information without having to click through. An "Activity Finder" pops out from the sidebar allowing users to filter activities by categories anywhere on the website. We utilized the services of Wufoo.com for the 'submit an activity' forms and advertisements were configured using a custom tool that rotates banner images through fixed ad sections on the site.
