Since we have scheduled ourselves to attend a couple of Umbraco 5 related trainings/conferences this year we thought to buy a new laptop to lug around. Nothing grand mind you. Just something practical. We took a trip to Best Buy, picked an off the shelf HP Pavilion dv7 la la la – whatever and have been in the process of getting everything installed and ready to run Umbraco 5 locally for the certification upgrade course.
- We installed Visual Studio 2010 and then updated to SP1, downloaded SQL Server 2012 from Microsoft’s TechNet – just to give it a shot (love it btw), downloaded and installed Microsoft’s Web Platform Installer and then began the process of setting up the local IIS server on Windows 7 Home Premium.
Windows 7 Home Premium, by default does not have the “Internet Information Services” installed. No problem. Control panel –> Programs and Features –> Turn Windows features on or off –> … check.
Well sort of – everything appeared to be setup and functioning correctly. However, in our first attempt to setup an Umbraco 5 site locally failed with an error message:
HTTP Error 403.14 – Forbidden
The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.
As it turns out Windows 7 Http Redirection is not enabled by default when you add the Internet Information Services … sort of a problem for ASP.NET MVC.
After selecting this option, I ran the aspnet_regiis.exe utility (not actually certain this is required)
Boom – fired right up.
