When did business become so personal?
The advent of social media has changed the way companies advertise, interact, and acquire consumers. Through the use of social media networks like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and others, companies reach out to the internet crowd and use a variety of means to acquire their business. The unique thing about social media, at least in my opinion, is companies are using personality and personal information to get results. Business is no longer JUST business and personal information is no longer taboo. Now, social media allows you to add a personal touch, a face behind the name, and provides the feeling of familiarity. It is this personal connection that is beginning to drive the consumer.
I have moved 44 times. I have lived in six different states, 13 different towns and am not from a military family. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest, the Northeast, and the South. Each of these moves taught me something important and enhanced my ability to socialize. Being a social person by nature, it was imperative that I meet people fast and regain the social network I had left behind. I was literally forced to meet new people and as a result, honed my social skills. These skills landed me the SEO marketing manager position at Mindfly.
Feeling a connection with a person builds confidence in a company. Social media relies on this confidence… @cssquirrel tweeted that the gumbo at Bowl ‘N Roll was tasty, perhaps I should go? I’m more likely now that my friend said it was good. One more customer down. My Facebook friend saw True Adolescents maybe I should go see that movie…another ticket sold. And the social media network alights.
