Like so many others before me, I came to Bellingham in 2002 to attend Western Washington University and never wanted to leave. When I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature four years later, I wasn't quite ready to tackle the corporate world just yet. I spent a year interning with a WWU student group, the INN University Ministries, and another few months working in temporary office positions. By then, I was ready for “a real job."
Miracle of miracles, I happened upon an online job listing for a writer of web content in the fall of 2007. And it just happened to be in Bellingham. I jumped at the chance, not really understanding what it meant to write content for websites. Would I be writing press releases or blogs or something else entirely? The answer turned out to be “yes, all of the above."
I write for and update two Mindfly-built websites. One is Neighborhood-Kids.com, an online resource that keeps parents up-to-date with fun stuff for kids in Bellingham and Whatcom County. The second website I maintain is Aramco ExPats, an online community for employees and retirees of Saudi Aramco, the largest oil corporation in the world.
The thing I love most about my job is the chance to learn and write about two very different topics and groups of people every day. I might write a travel article about Yemen in the morning, and interview a local children's author in the afternoon. I'm especially grateful for the chance to hone my skills as a writer while living in this beautiful city.
When I'm not writing, you'll find me drinking caramel lattes at Avellino, riding my bike to the Bellingham Farmers Market, enjoying the Amber Ale at Boundary Bay with friends, scouring used book stores, attempting chakra-asana in yoga, volunteering with the Whatcom Literacy Council, developing my photography skills, and listening to music on my iPhone.
